**This episode contains detailed discussions of sexual abuse, which may be distressing or triggering to some listeners. Listener discretion is advised. Remember to prioritize your mental and emotional well-being while engaging with this content.**
Today I’m joined by Kelly Gee (Executive Director) and Brent Cary (Vice President) of Survivors for Change. These two men bravely share their experience of grooming and sexual abuse at the hand of their hockey coach. We discuss their stories, healing process, and what inspired them to start supporting other survivors. This episode may be difficult at times to listen to. Predatory grooming and sexual abuse are far more common than anyone wants to admit. It’s currently estimated that 1 in 6 men have experienced sexual abuse. The “metoo” movement went a long way to encourage women to share their abuse and empower them to seek justice. We cannot forget our boys and men. If you or anyone you know has experienced grooming and/or sexual abuse please utilize the resources below. It’s not your fault and help is available for you.
About the organization: “Survivors for Change’s mission is to provide education, advocacy, peer engagement, therapeutic support, and wellness resources to male survivors of sexual abuse to help them on their journey of healing and justice.
Through the continued development of our national network of practitioners and clinicians, Survivors for Change will deliver customized Recovery Road Maps which will offer individualized care as well as peer engagement when survivors need strength and support from each other.
Founded by male victims of Predatory Sexual Assault, Survivors for Change will use our voice to create societal level awareness and education for this rampant issue, accountability for perpetrators and the institutions that enable them, and justice and healing for all those affected.” (https://www.survivorsforchange.org/)
