Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul: Legacy and Purpose
As tonight's fight approaches, my algorithm has been serving up related content.
Last night, I watched an interview with Tyson, where a young girl asked him about the legacy he hopes to leave behind.
His response was unexpected. He equated legacy to ego—a pointless desire to be remembered. "Who cares?" he emphasized.
While I understand his sentiment, I disagree.
Legacy matters.
It doesn’t have to mean leaving behind millions, building a business, or becoming famous.
Legacy is about remembrance—how we touch other people’s lives.
When life is all about you, legacy becomes fleeting and ego-driven. But when life is about service, legacy becomes how you touch other souls.
We overcomplicate purpose and legacy.
What if, instead of trying to figure out how you’ll be remembered, you focus on this:
Practice the campsite principle and leave someone better than you found them.
Whether it’s your child, partner, grocery clerk, or hairstylist—let your energy be your legacy.
Operate from a place of gratitude.
After you’re gone, what will remain is the memory of how others felt in your presence.
